Every so often, Rishikesh becomes extra special—not just for us locals and travellers, but for some of Bollywood’s biggest names too. Recently, the ever-charming Anil Kapoor and his elder brother, producer Boney Kapoor, made a heartfelt trip to our peaceful town.
This wasn’t just any visit. The Kapoor brothers came to Rishikesh to remember and honour their beloved mother, Nirmal Kapoor, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 90. They chose the banks of the holy Ganga, a place locals and visitors alike find healing, to pray for her and perform rituals.
The duo met with Swami Chidanand Saraswati at Parmarth Niketan Ashram—one of Rishikesh’s best-known spiritual spots—where they performed puja and offered prayers to Maa Ganga. Whether you’re Bollywood royalty or a wandering traveler, there’s something about the stillness here that just helps you breathe a little easier, especially during difficult times.
Anil Kapoor has always spoken warmly of Rishikesh, often calling it a blessed place. After their puja, Anil even took a few moments to reflect on Instagram. He shared a touching message, saying, “Today we immersed Ma’s ashes in the Ganga, in the same place where we had laid Dad to rest nearly a decade ago… With the grief came a quiet sense of peace, like Ma and Dad are finally back together, with each other, home at last.”
Losing someone is never easy. Anil has been open about how much his mother meant to not just their family, but to everyone around her. He called her “the glue that kept our family close,” and remembered her kindness, strength, and quiet ability to bring people together—qualities it seems Rishikesh has, too.
If you’ve ever wandered along the Ganga here, watched the evening aarti, or sat in peaceful silence by the river, you know Rishikesh is more than just another stop on the map. It’s a place for reflection, for letting go, and for holding on to what matters most. Whether you come as a movie star or just someone searching for peace, Rishikesh welcomes everyone.
So if you’re in town, take a little extra time by the river. Soak up the calm, remember your loved ones, and—who knows—you might even find a bit of the peace that Anil Kapoor and Boney Kapoor found on their visit.
